Dorothea Mackellar wrote a famous poem originally entitled “My Country” which name was later changed to “I love a Sunburnt Country”
I love that poem and it inspires in me a great love for my native Country – Australia
So much so that I have written my own poem about Australia entitled “Warm Rich Red”
Warm Rich Red
Our land is Warm,
Rich Red.
Scarce the water,
overhead.
Insects thrive,
we hate those flies,
Our hat with corks,
Protect
our eyes.
Nature lies in
earth’s domain.
Dormant from the
seldom rain.
Yet brilliance shows,
each time for weeks,
when, ever scarce
clouds,
their load release.
Danger coils,
Left best
Alone.
Do not mess.
It’s bite
can take your breath
and lay you
Cold
In Warm Rich Red.
In faith we act.
Our land
doth teach.
With mind and hand,
We sow, we reap.
Yet we rely,
on Him, who made,
earth Warm Rich Red,
and Sky.
