Just as a lighthouse sends its beams across the ocean, to warn and protect ships in the night of approaching physical danger, every person needs additional light, to help guide, warn and protect them, as they navigate their own personal journey of life. This light steers us away from spiritual danger. So, where does your light come from?

Everyone is born with a conscience. Our conscience tells us the difference between right and wrong. When we make a wrong choice we get a certain feeling. If we make a seriously wrong choice, this can lead to a feeling of shaking and uneasiness – certainly a physical prompting letting us know that the choice we are making is not the right one. If we ignore these promptings and continue to make wrong choices, the feelings diminish – until we no longer realize what we are doing is wrong.
We are born on this earth to exercise our agency – to learn from making choices. Sometimes we allow our physical appetites to over-ride otherwise correct choices.
Another name for conscience is the “light of Christ” Light expels darkness – darkness cannot exist where there is light. Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17) The liberty we experience is peace of conscience. We no longer have to worry – because we have followed the light of Christ, or our conscience. Every time we follow our conscience and choose right we will experience this peace.
Keeping the commandments of God leads to such liberty & freedom. Check out the ten commandments. (Exodus 20:1-17) May these commandments become your Lighthouse.
If everyone kept these commandments how much better our lives would be. They are just as relevant today, as at the time they were given – about 3,400 years ago
Jesus said “If ye love me keep my commandments” (John14:15) then He will light up our life as the Lighthouse.
